Role of the JCR
The JCR is a committee aimed at representing undergraduate interests and improving the quality of life for those students. Several JCR meetings are held each term with anyone being allowed and encouraged to attend (there is usually free pizza as an incentive). Here students can present and vote on motions and have their say over the allocation of JCR funds. The vast variety of reps illustrate the wealth of activities, events, and opportunities the JCR manages, from BOPs to picnics, to the yearly St. Hilda's Ball there are many events for students to get involved with. Reps for specific subcommunities within Hilda's such as the LGBTQ+, Trans, Diabilities, BAME, and International reps often hold their own events and these can be a great way to connect with other members of those groups within and outside of the college. In short the JCR fulfills a lot of purposes, but at its heart it is an accessible democratic organisation aimed at improving the lives of the students it represents.
